Module 6 - Project Management Review

Module 6 FAQ Review

Material provided by NWTC Project Management with Terri Brown.

1. What is a project stakeholder and why are they important?

A stakeholder is any individual, group, or organization that can affect or be affected by a project. They can have a positive or negative influence, and their interests can range from financial gain to environmental concerns. Stakeholders are crucial to a project's success because their needs and expectations directly impact the project's direction and outcomes. Neglecting to identify and manage stakeholders can lead to misaligned goals, resistance to change, and even project failure.

2. How can I identify and prioritize stakeholders?

Stakeholder identification is an ongoing process that starts with a project's initiation. Tools like the Power/Interest Grid help categorize stakeholders based on their level of influence (power) and their level of concern (interest) in the project. This allows project managers to prioritize stakeholders and tailor communication strategies. For instance, high-power, high-interest stakeholders require close management, while those with low power and low interest need less frequent updates.

3. What [does] a stakeholder register and why do I need one?

A stakeholder register is a living document that provides detailed information about each stakeholder. It goes beyond the Power/Interest Grid by including details such as:

  • Contact information
  • Level of support (active, neutral, opposed)
  • Potential impact on the project
  • Key issues and concerns
  • Engagement strategies and tactics
  • Relationships with other stakeholders

This register helps the project team track stakeholder engagement, anticipate potential challenges, and adjust strategies as needed.

4. How does culture influence project communication and stakeholder engagement?

Culture significantly shapes how people communicate, negotiate, and make decisions. In diverse project environments, cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings, misinterpretations, and even conflicts. Project managers need to be culturally sensitive, adapt their communication styles, and be mindful of nuances like language, context, and candor to ensure effective collaboration and stakeholder engagement.

5. What are the stages of team development and how can they help me manage my project team?

Tuckman's stages of group development (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing, Adjourning) provide a framework for understanding team dynamics. By recognizing these stages, project managers can anticipate potential challenges, address conflicts effectively, and facilitate the team's progress towards high performance. Understanding that teams go through periods of conflict and uncertainty can help manage expectations and guide interventions.

6. What are virtual teams and what are the key considerations for managing them?

Virtual teams are groups of individuals who collaborate primarily through electronic communication and digital tools, often across geographical boundaries. Managing virtual teams presents unique challenges:

  • Building Trust: Establishing trust is more challenging when communication is mostly virtual.
  • Communication: Clear and frequent communication is paramount, leveraging both synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous (email, messaging) tools.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Be mindful of cultural differences, time zones, and communication styles to ensure inclusivity and effective collaboration.

7. How does emotional intelligence (EQ) contribute to project success?

Emotional intelligence is the ability to understand and manage emotions, both in oneself and in others. Project managers with high EQ are better equipped to:

  • Build Trust: Create a positive and supportive team environment through empathy and understanding.
  • Resolve Conflicts: Effectively address disagreements and conflicts with team members and stakeholders.
  • Communicate Effectively: Tailor their communication style to different audiences and situations.
  • Motivate and Inspire: Encourage team members to perform at their best.

EQ is a crucial skill for navigating complex project environments and building strong relationships with stakeholders.

8. What is change management and why is it important in projects?

Change management focuses on the human side of change. Projects often introduce changes to processes, systems, or ways of working, which can lead to resistance if not managed effectively. Change management strategies include:

  • Communication: Clearly articulate the reasons for the change, its benefits, and how it will impact stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Involve stakeholders in the change process to foster a sense of ownership.
  • Training and Support: Provide necessary training and resources to help individuals adapt to the change.
  • Addressing Resistance: Identify and address resistance proactively through open communication and problem-solving.

Effective change management ensures smoother transitions, reduces resistance, and increases the likelihood of project success and sustained adoption of new initiatives.

Summary

Being a leader in any scenario requires group thinking strategies to coordinate how the project should be managed. I believe in a firm understanding for group dynamics and if it isn't happening, it is okay to say no to it. A project manager can only do their role in the proper working environments. I enjoyed the touch on the subject for culturally sensitive workplaces. It isn't what I personally believe in, because we don't bring our culture in the business areas, we make money there. When culture is a sensitive subject, it means they don't want to do business with us, they don't want to prosper with diversity themselves, and they do not want to change. The future is innovatively changing every day, and it requires business strategies and conducting professional demeanor over self. They are a representative of the product and its processes. I thought this factor in America should be recognized as not typical since many Americans put their personal identity behind the customer service mask. They are optimally trying to encourage more other or diverse crowds to engage in what they can provide to mainstream marketing because they understand to appeal to a broader and general audience.

Can you do me a solid?

 Java - Eclipse - SQLite

Issue: Troubleshooting the JDBC driver.
Attempt 1: Replaced the file path within the eclipse build path option where classpath can list the driver directly (jar file).
Attempt 2: Because of the embedded JDBC driver within the project it was unable to read some of the import statements, so I adjusted it with and without. I found out that the JDK was needed.
Attempt 3: Loaded the JDK with the classpath and jar file. It loaded and was able to read some of the import statements afterwards. But now the try-catch-finally block statement was needed, plus the auto-closeable feature also needed to be constructed with the try-catch-finally block statement.
Attempt 4: It is reading the JDBC driver is in the wrong file path. It cannot load the driver, basically.

In my quest of obtaining a clear definition of troubleshooting this database connection - I have researched and reviewed different strands of code to find different connections and why they used it. I have seen some empty commands without trace or reason for needing the empty loop (which made me question the code snippet they provided) and trust that it was because of the auto-closeable feature needing the try-catch statement but it did not list it within the parameter calls - which other snippet reasons did need. I cleaned the code with the refactor options. Nothing.

I have refactored the code, tried different approaches with the type of SQLException that would get confused with the Class not found and the ever present No Driver Found error.
I'm down to the driver being unfound, which is odd, because there is no other way to formulate it. I have tried absolute path, pasted the jar file within each branch of the absolute path to the actual file in the project folder itself. Nothing!

If you could follow along with this predicament, I sure could use some tips on how to get a simple database connection with the JDBC Driver!

Getting to know my community...

I asked a couple of community members what they believe in and the technological influences we've gone through to shape our understanding of this world and our expectations for the future. It was good to get to know them more, being reflected in the community as independently strong women, strong supportive community father figures, and the people we pass by each day until it is finally enough to say "hello neighbor" community types include their services to America a little bit farther with this inquisitive collection of data endeavor.

Topical issues revolving around American belief systems and the future of religious options for their descendants can be a tough subject to mosey into, but the best conversations from those that you believe have a solid foundation for what an American lifestyle consists of, the locals of the small town in rural Wisconsin, famous for an agricultural societal background with homestyle living conditions affected by the natural pristine care of the forest. The way it can be best described is historically based as a predominantly White and Native American blend of people, but they all rooted character with establishing their communities since the 1800's. Artifacts that reflect the technological era of their arrival are engineered with mechanical prose for gears and handles.

One question is what would you do if your grandchildren or great grandchildren began to believe in something different than what you believe in?
The response is acceptable to their choice, they would have the sense of having the betterment of knowing to act on their birth character from home activities with a family foundation and that the belief would align somewhere near that. There is no concern from most who ponder the idea of a different religious background, the list of strays that have been successful in their participation to thrive in something they decided was best for them to reflect a diverse collection with their foundational love to learn and live with.
It is observed that it is the first form of collected diverse love in an acceptable gathering that has been able to occur because of the American religious freedom of choice law. What we see working in a beautiful family setting, we believe can shine outwards into every family in America.
However, we are short-handedly deceived, because not everyone believes this is the definition of what America needs, creates long-lasting happiness, or is a personal preference for each American citizen. It would be considered, unethical, to enforce this solution.
The questions in interviews consist of:
  • religious upbringing
  • conflictions
  • American mainstream inclusions of transitioning within technology and the generational themes throughout the decades
  • family lessons
  • religious solutions
  • foundational character-building environments and relating learned lessons with parenting, and many more.
From these interviews, I gain collections of information to help shape the religious curriculum for finding different lessons that can revolve with applied mathematical concepts, strategies, and philosophies that relate to foundational belief systems in transitional stages from multiple entry ports such as
  • interracial (services, expectations, acceptance)
  • modern family conditions (technological, media, trend, services), newfound religious experiences
  • occupational resistance (work, time, money, physical condition, fatigue)
  • Conformity for options and unakin to choose long-term commitment with transitioned belief system for acceptance, opportunity, community belonging.
  • Generational (long-standing, recovered, hereditary)
  • Institutional (transitioned from a natural acceptance to a man-made structure of policies to abide by for enforced lesson - education, incarceration, medical, political, etc.)
  • Professional (learning environments, time management, reflection rates with success and challenge)
  • Dysfunctional (Tolerance to abuse/neglect, Redefined belief transitions internally as an emotional configuration to host lessons of survival, adaptation or recourse)
  • Pursuit (Person who pursues the definition of Religion as a maturity, a calling, or naturally included in the recognition of events that encourage more to reality)
Identifying the intervention from government policies and enforced equal opportunists can impact the personal acceptance to value systems foreign or otherwise conflicting with spiritual growth and development. This impacts society overall to redeem no profitable American spirit without a proper identity that the individual can attain with their constitutional right. This is a lived lesson, where service system installations designed to impact community in a positive form fail, and the recovery is unending due to the initial failure as a debt to society rather than a provision to successful inclusions that enable the individual to likelihood of professional success returns in product, services, sale. Building that American dream of acceptance with business has created a stubborn attitude in America with trust being tested in a hierarchical dominance scheme that we often recognize with business relations and strategy (the mentality of decisions).
The interviews are designed to gather observations in transitions, impact, and results that affected them. The traumatic experiences of encountering new dilemmas and what are we going to do when the entire world is connected with a global unification system?
A couple of solutions have arrived in these interviews, and I encourage you to participate in one! If you can navigate to the top of the website and click on the navigation tabs for "Permission to Use Form" and while you're at it, check out the tab for "Tsha Tewahsana Release Form - Faith Based Opinion Survey" to check out a sample of some questions that are asked. Please not the easily offended or the cultural sensitive!
Thanks ahead of time,

Project Management Activity

Project Management Activity - Wedding Planner Request in a Software Developer Field

A young couple have decided to plan a wedding and need help. Overwhelming plans, a reduced time schedule of 6 months, but the budget wasn't mentioned. Here is a quick sample of a project management exercise to use as a critique of what you would do in this area of expertise and not to mention out of your element!

ShylockDon’t worry. My sister’s wedding planner was great. Let me give her a call. [Shylock calls the wedding planner Brooke.]
Wedding PlannerHello Shylock and Erma!
ShylockWe want everything to be perfect.

There is so much to do! Invitations, food, guests, and music.
ShylockOh no, we haven’t even booked a place!
ErmaAnd it has to be done right. We can’t print the invitations until we have the menu planned. We can’t do the seating arrangements until we have the RSVPs. We aren’t sure what kind of band to get for the reception, or should it be a DJ? We’re just overwhelmed.
Shylock    My sister said you really saved her wedding. I know she gave you over a year to plan.
ShylockBut I’ve always dreamed of a June wedding, and I’m not willing to give that up. I know it’s late, but Brooke can you help us?
Wedding PlannerTake it easy, guys. I’ve got it under control. We’ve a lot of people and activities to get under control. You guys really should have called six months ago, but we’ll still make this wedding happen on time.

Much work has to be done before June. First, Brooke figures out what work needs to be done. She starts to put together a to-do list:

  • Invitations
  • Flowers
  • Wedding cake
  • Dinner menu
  • Band
  • Reception venue preparation
  • Transportation

Since many different people are involved in the making of the wedding, it takes much planning to coordinate all the work in the right order by the right people at the right time. Initially, Brooke was worried that she didn’t have enough time to make sure that everything would be done properly. However, she knew that she had some powerful time management tools on her side when she took the job, and these tools would help her to synchronize all the required tasks.

Questions

Please answer the following questions about the business case:

  1. List some activities to accomplish the above to-do list and organize them under major deliverables in WBS.
  2. What method should Brooke estimate (bottom-up, top-down) the time for these activities? Explain.
  3. Discuss what tools that Brooke can use to manage the schedule.

7.4 Prepare a thank you card and small gift for the transportation company.

__________________________________________________________________________
Brooke should use a top-down method since most of the elements to reveal certain selections require feedback from the RSVP link provided. Once the participation begins, it will be easier to acquire planning data like preferences, schedule conflicts, questions/concerns that the host can consider when planning will help that response time faster.
Brooke would most likely be using an event planner website for project management and task listing when creating the project charter for services, drafting agreements between expectations of event and budget constraints with the time constraint in place as well. The guarantee does require insurance to cover an alternative event in the extreme emergency may need to be excluded and focus solely on the priority activities being requested.
Other tools that will help are services that can provide website access to coordinate the bridal party, events, and response for updates on the event. Another great tool to use would be in any digital printing business, to have access to selections and different materials they can provide at an affordable cost.

This was a mock exercise of planning a wedding event to practice instructional writing and procedure thinking in an analytical example.
All character names are fictional.
The software portion of it would be how the planner conducted the meetings and interviews that followed for fine-tuning details, cost, and maintaining the website with guest concerns.
I have discussed technological aspects of DJ equipment but it was rendered as using a software package to use for accessing multiple outports that were controlled with the interface handle of equipment. It could be scheduled and programmed based on preference.
The other technological details involved would be background logistics of each service and business that provided in this mock example.

Binary Jots with the Tongue

Poke a hole with the tip of your tongue to see your point!

Creative Writing using grid formation and the tongue to find sensual rhythms in isolation.
Expansion is a muscle? Well, let's just imagine this for a second...

Value is a courtesy to indicate the location away from zero, normally, but, let's try where the value isn't value until you have stepped away from a range of zero (which internally is going to represent binary since 0 and 1 are dominant features of this relationship). We will begin with the number 2 as first. I don't say 1 or 0 here because it depends on how it is being used.

We have this huge hole for binary in the middle of our graphing imagery of vectors and we need to configure this to have a linear presence for all of the usual mathematical arrangements. That is all we need to transition any mathematical concept into a theoretical practice! Linear mathematical arrangements act as control agents of change (depends on the arrangement and interpretation) if needing a known resolved step.
So, because of this, our grid ends up looking like a contour of zero expansion (which is a muscle). What do we know about muscles that affects this entire grid because of zero being labeled this entity of movement, control, and instability? We know that a tongue needs other parts of the mouth to be mechanically operative. This isn't typical, so, continuing with the surmounting philosophy of new ideas it will be empty for the concept of idea alone, not the actual content. The grid itself is a null value, but it intends to escape this null value with the tongue!

The grid the tongue is on, needs to find a way out, mathematically.
Some of the conditions include a zero space, binary, and a replicating field that is affected by the turmoil of the tongue. The type of space it is, requires no definition, it is just a reactive field for movement.
The muscle is capable of movement. It is a living entity, so its connections are dimensionally maintained, here as a one-dimensional measurement. We know the object (tongue) is incapable of leaving the grid.
Why? Because the idea of measuring the tongue is the main focus, that we never had to catch it, dissect it, or otherwise misplace it to merely measure. Let's assume that it can leave the grid. And we need to find a way for it, to leave the grid.

Tongue Behavior
Vecteezy.com "Mouth"

Basic Observation of Purpose: The essence of the tongue is to formulate sound, the echo based on the cavernous arrangement to protrude a sound into a tunnel effect for volume. The tongue can point, click, cluck, and move food as we chew. It is pretty peculiar of its surroundings, without any vision, to know when to point. That is a working intelligence for conditioned muscle that orchestrates the variations of sounds based on its contact.
Basic Observation of Grid: It is acting like the cavernous mouth, except, the volume isn't key for its escape. The sound will not be leaving the tongue, or the grid, in this rendition of who escapes the grid! It has no opening outside of zeroes gaping centrally located hole, which is unexplained yet....

The tongue, begins to evaluate what it can do and the place it is, begins to react to it moving, causing the contour lines to move, up, down, buoyantly. Sensitive and impressionable from both directions. The tongue concludes that this place has no up or down, that it is the center of attention.

At this point, the tongue, begins to stand upright, as tall as it can from the tip of the tongue and begins to balance its base to break any bind it can. Probity astounds the complexity of what is up and down when the base begins to spread across the grid, unaccompanied with the solid structure to maintain its protective shell from dehydration, which it picked up pretty fast, it's going to need something quick. It begins to wriggle, rotating from its spot, expanding at the base. It loses the muscle structure as it begins to grow tired and stiff from thirst. The tiny sporadic volcanoes are fuming an exhaust that is unable to replenish with the roof of a mouth and begins to shrivel inwards as it expands at the base. The openings die and it loses its sense of taste. It never got to taste, since this place, did not have food, liquid, flavor. The body of this beast never knew it had the pleasure of tasting to send a signal of satisfaction, for it to stop searching for thirst, which was assumed the only reaction at this time.

Standing tall, it begs itself to stay, but cannot and falters down. Farther into dehydration, it begins to shrivel and loses its connection as a muscle. Detached, old, the space around it, begins to preserve it. The statuesque pose it portrays is grotesquely disfigured and ominous. Something abstract stains imprint to provide a surreal reality in transit.
In the pose, configurations of its image and sense of speech transmit in this space - a concise tone that has no tongue to click its language into gear... the pitch is senseless and roams endlessly in place, away from the center of this grid, where the tongue perches like a miniature castle, waiting to be revived, repaired, replenished.

the tongue.
What does binary say, when all the words have escaped humanity and the epic journey of defeating enemies, friends, self-starting adventurers to summon their divinity through life to explain? You couldn't bring your bucket of water or pack of stones you carried with you in life. All you have, is the muscle that built your steps to the high rise of civility to explain your place in this world.
The tongue, captures the tool to tell your higher power... all you have are binary methods to approach with:

1. Binary is 1 or 0.
2. Binary can speak a language if programmed.
3. Binary is universal.
4. Binary consists of null, null here is defined as the separation of value.
5. Binary in this type of space, a space defined as non-directional and reactive to tongue, is able to change, granted, the tongue.

_______________________________________________________________________________

Working the tongue over, it begins to fall apart, crumbling at the ground, the space around it shakes and crumbles the entire tongue on the ground, in the epicenter of this false cavernous echo, the smallest pieces begin to move contours throughout the space and it juts the land in uneven slurs of moved land as if painted with a large brush and stroked in quick passes like bunches of hand strewn grass, without the detail, being gathered and suckered into space to form thick dunes that are sweeping up and around, fooled by the interaction of a sound being made from the stilled tongue.
It is just like zero to try and multiply, for the space to catch its every fiber and account for each piece as if to effect, evenly - ends up dispersed and in shambles. This is the impossible, zero in multiples!

The tongue, now past its muscle state, are rolled up small buds with pockets of taste receptors, small fibrous hairs protruding like the echoes newfound floor where there is not an up or down in its stilled presence, still wrapped around the tongue's dehydrated buds, loosely in its dipped concave cup where binary is being held as a hand of loosely shelled pockets and slowly being worn down by the space as an effect of changing it. Harboring trapped air and fossilizing the direction of what is up and down, it spreads thinly as the thick curls that resembled shortly cropped curls on a young man's head are now matted down and slick with beautiful cupped taste buds (unaware of its shape and form) that were able to catch moisture, slowly, from the encased space that created small beacons made of taste buds.

At this time, the world had developed, civilizations had risen, fallen, arrived from conquest, defeated, admired, and moved on together, as separate entities. The world still had a tongue. And now, with the reservoirs of salivated gatherings made from the sheer coincidence of dehydration and chance that befell a natural process - had the opportunity to provide a living tongue to the world that had developed without it.

Taste bud Image by an Amoils.com blog!

What will you say, how will you say it and what do we really understand about the human body held in captivity with no sensual evidence of what it is that the relational aptitude for life is to digest its surroundings and leave when it is empty?

Java - crawling pace uphill...

An amazing follow-up or intro for C# programming: Java

Learning Java was similar to C#, with minor differences. I realize, learning this many languages in a short amount of time, feels like a slur that is sloshing alongside the campus walls of memory deficits from not attaining a decent rhythm. I would love to work on a project longer than 3 weeks and develop the proper questions. It is so difficult for me to logically and internally decide the perfect path. The process of building the connections between each step that must occur, while exception handling, and as a new set of eyes on it... I realize, I need more time studying and planning each program I write based on a personal commitment to finish my tasks.
Wow - if I could give advice here for someone struggling with completing the programs with the amount of time provided: Don't rush it, learn it, and do what you can. Regardless, it's about actually knowing the material and not taking the keywords, terminology, or the extra effort for exercises or research to clarify something being read from material. But, with time management, also at comfortable leisure to stay focus towards the task. Don't be afraid to fail, just apply yourself to gain more insight on the subject to remain familiar with it (these should also be half price for return students, Kinds've pricey).

I would actually recommend Java as a foundational language before C#, JavaScript, however - since they all intertwine with relatable concepts - your choice is as good as any other developers first pick.

I used Eclipse IDE for Java developers, SQLite, and JDBC for SQLite in my projects throughout this course. I am working to improve the IDE experience with IntelliJ IDEA and SQLite with my final project that I didn't get to completely finish and use Eclipse as a tester IDE. I am looking on different ways to keep my code functional (since I have issues with debug working properly for me) and to structure with tabular testing at minimal in mind.
I just need more practice! I haven't had time to do much extra since this past course, which I am not too confident in. As soon as you get the hang of things, it ends, and I end up moving into other skillset development which helps it being used in other courses (but its one of those things where you wish you had these skills beforehand) - simply, nothing you can do about it other than knowing self-improvement is also appreciating the time for self-glorification.
